Motivating a Staff and Getting Projects Done: In the first few weeks back on campus, the RAs were hit with a huge number of tasks and assignments. Once classes, schoolwork, and other extracurricular activities picked up, several RAs had overlooked completing some of these tasks or had lost track of what they had completed. To refocus the team and complete these assignments, I created the "Area 2 Four Day Challenge," a list of 4 tasks that gave the RAs a clear deadline to finish what may have appeared to be ongoing assignments. Click here to download the .pdf file of the document. Features of the Document: To make things clear, I put the deadline in bold at the top of the page and included check boxes next to each task - a universal (is that true?) symbol for "when-you're-done-you'll-know-you're-done-and-check-it-off-your-list." I made clear and concise instructions for completing the tasks. And don't be fooled! College students are certainly capable of completing complex tasks without being walked through in baby steps. However, very busy and ambitious college students (the sort who usually sign up to be RAs) do tend to perform much better when the instructions are clear. |
